The Federal Government is being urged to take immediate action in preparation for bird flu potentially reaching Australia.

Two farms in Victoria tested positive for a strain of the disease, not the highly pathogenic variety.

While a farm in Western Australia has also detected a strain of the virus, but is not connected to the Victorian outbreak.

The Invasive Species Council says it won’t be long before the deadly strain hits our shores.

Rural reporter Georgia Kondek spoke with Advocacy Director Jack Gough who says it’s critical the government acts now.
