BYD Atto 3 Extended range SUV 2
Driving the BYD Atto 3 medium sized electric SUV – the extended range model
with larger 60 kW/hour battery and 480km of distance fully charged. One of the
most affordable electric cars but certainly not cheap at $49,112 drive-away after a
N.S.W. Govt. 3 per cent stamp duty concession and $3,000 rebate. The BYD Atto
is sold online but delivered and serviced via A.P Eagers dealerships. An
interesting SUV, the interior a little quirky with rather strange air vents and door
handles but with great power and heated front seats and a rear power tailgate,
wireless phone charging and excellent adaptive cruise control but
disappointingly only in five km/hour increments. The quality a surprise but how
does it drive – a very enjoyable experience frankly with a great ride, fast, smooth
and quiet with impressive braking but let down with inferior quality tyres. My wife
fell in love with the drive experience, and the seat comfort and the feel of the BYD
Atto 3 on road will sell a lot of potential buyers. Charging from 240 to 480km took
me five hours on my 7kW wall charger. Warranty somewhat confusing –
8yrs/160,000km for the battery pack, but up to 6 other time and distance limits for
other vehicle componentry. I’m David Berthon
