Can Aussies be trusted to drink responsibly in public?

In many Australian states, public alcohol consumption is illegal in places like streets, parks, and beaches due to potential law-and-order issues.

However, the NSW Premier is considering allowing drinking in entertainment areas and public spaces, aiming to transform Sydney into a European-style city where responsible public drinking is common.

Gina Field, a security expert and founder of Nepean Regional Security with 30 years of experience, tells Mike Jeffreys that, given Australia’s unique drinking culture, this approach is unlikely to succeed without a major shift in attitudes toward alcohol.
