China becomes the world’s largest exporter of cars

Japan is no longer the world’s largest exporter of cars with China achieving the top spot in the first quarter of this year. Data from the Chinese Association of Automobile Manufacturers shows motor vehicle exports from China increased 58 percent in the first quarter compared with the same period last year, a total 1.07 million cars being exported. In the same period, the Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association reported a 6 per cent rise, with 950,000 vehicles sent offshore. Belgium, Australia, and Thailand are the biggest buyers of Chinese produced electric cars. Russia is now China’s best customer, with almost all major car manufacturers halting production in Russia following the country’s invasion of Ukraine. Chinese vehicle exports to Russia tripling in one year to 140,000.
