David Coleman MP on Labor’s Misinformation Bill & 3G Shutdown

Mike Jeffreys

Mike is joined by David Coleman MP, Shadow Minister for Communications and Federal Member for Banks, to provide an update on Labor’s proposed Misinformation Bill and its current status.

As debates continue over the bill’s implications for free speech, media regulation, and public discourse, Mr. Coleman offers insights into its potential impact on the media landscape and society. He also raises broader concerns about how this legislation could affect the delicate balance between truth, freedom, and censorship in the digital age.

Additionally, the discussion addresses the delayed 3G network shutdown, which Mr. Coleman attributes to the Albanese Government’s poor handling of the issue, placing significant responsibility on the Communications Minister.

The government’s slow response to early warnings resulted in a last-minute scramble as the shutdown deadline loomed. Now, both Telstra and Optus have postponed their 3G shutdowns until October 28 and are set to launch a public safety campaign.
