This time last year you would have been lucky to negotiate a discount in the new car marketplace. Dealers were unable to secure stock and most cars were sold at list price with delayed delivery. However, 12 months on and it’s a buyer’s market with an abundance of stock, new brands and new models. But buyers beware, there’s a lot of 2023 build stock in the market so you really need to look at one year’s depreciation to start with and work back from there for a discount. Volkswagen pulled a rabbit out of the hat this week with a drive-away deal on its coveted VW Golf GTI hot hatch. Fully optioned with the $4,000 luxury pack combined with a $2,600 Sound and Style package for an all up $59,990 drive- away. That’s a good saving of $7,990 if you have a Sydney 2000 postcode.
