Doctors warn rural patients could get left behind

Rural doctors are raising concerns over proposed changes to where overseas-trained doctors are allowed to work.

There are discussions underway into scrapping the moratorium requiring migrant doctors to work in regional, rural or remote areas for a period of time.

The Rural Doctors Association of Australia supports the change, but says replacement policies need to be improved.

Rural reporter Ella Smith spoke to Chief Executive Peta Rutherford about how this could affect communities in the bush, and what needs to change pbefore the proposal potentially comes into effect.
