Fake Flake: three quarters of fish from fish and chips mislabelled

John Stanley

Ian Connelan, editor and chief of the Royal Institute of  Australia joins John to talk about the latest science stories.

This week John is shocked to find three-quarters of chippies mislabel the ‘flake’ served in their fish and chips. Endangered species such as hammerheads and mako may be served with chips instead of the sustainable gummy shark.

John also finds out the ADF could be giving soldiers steroids in the near future. Despite the health drawbacks of sustained steroid use, it is suggested that its pros might outway its cons. Increased strength and vitality are seen as incredibly important in the evolving landscape of close combat military operations.

To finish up, John explores the ins and outs of sunscreen. The product has been applied for almost a century, but not much is known about the product or its mysterious SPF range.
