Financial Review’s Joe Aston analyses Alan Joyce’s Qantas tenure

Clinton Maynard

Following the abrupt departure of Alan Joyce, Luke is joined by Joe Aston, The Australian Financial Review’s Rear Window columnist, to discuss the way forward for Qantas and just how it came to pass that Joyce had to pull the pin.

New Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson pledges customer-centric focus to restore the airline’s tarnished reputation following Alan Joyce’s early departure due to mounting public frustration over on-time performance, high airfares, and ticket sale controversies.

Ms Hudson, previously CFO, will now oversee a $15 billion plane financing initiative. She emphasized the need to strike a balance between customers, staff, and the business in a video message to employees, prioritising customer satisfaction with the new management team.

Attention now shifts to Qantas’ board led by Richard Goyder.
