GENESIS Small GV60 Electric SUV – best to hang onto your hat

David Berthon

Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis continues to gain momentum with sales
November year-to-date is up 86 per cent. I’ve just driven the small GV60 SUV, an all-
electric model, good looking well sized, and in two premium all-wheel-drive
grades, the entry GV60 at $106,375 and the GV60 Performance at $113,375. A
nice-looking small SUV with good interior room and many luxury features.
The gear selector a crystal ball that flips over when required and adds a futuristic
element to the interior. With a 77.4kWhour lithium-ion battery the Genesis is no
lightweight yet despite this the acceleration is staggering although the weight is
evident under heavy cornering. The GV60 Performance gets fully adaptive
electronic suspension which aids ride and handling and on road, it feels planted
with nice ride quality. From a driver standpoint, there are two linked 12.3-inch
screens – one for infotainment and one for instrumentation – this widescreen duo
augmented by a colour head-up display. A Boost button lifts power and torque,
stiffens the adaptive dampers, and sharpens throttle response to an impressive
sports level. Genesis quality just seems to get better and better as detailed in the
latest J.D.Power Dependability survey from the U.S. where it came second behind
Lexus.
