Government incentives to buy electric cars dry up the world over

It seems incentives to buy electric cars are starting to dry up – In July the
Victorian Government axed its $3,000 electric car subsidy while the NSW
Government from the 1st of January this year has repealed its $3,000 rebate and
stamp duty offer. The local moves come as the German Government has also
stopped offering financial incentives to electric car buyers a year earlier than
expected. The German subsidy was worth AU$7,300 for electric and long-range
plug-in hybrid vehicles which cost less than AU$65,000 and AU$4,875 for those
worth above that figure up to AU$105,600. Germany has reportedly spent a
staggering AU$16.25 million on electric and plug-in hybrid subsidies since the
scheme was initiated in 2014. France has also cut back electric car subsidies –
only electric vehicles produced in Europe will continue to gain subsidies favouring
Renault Citroen and Peugeot – Chinese and Korean products to now be excluded.
