Holden’s engineers finally finish up – a sad day for our manufacturing ability
A sad day for our manufacturing ability this week when 100 Holden engineers finished up with the company in Port Melbourne with another 100 to finish up at the company’s Lang Lang proving ground in Victoria in August. The Society of Automotive Engineers rightly pointing out that these engineers are a valuable and irreplaceable asset that must be preserved and put to use – Society Chairman and CEO Adrian Feeney suggesting that they were a priceless brains trust that could launch into a new automotive venture – the SAE anxious to get Government support for its electric police car project which according to Mr. Feeney has generated strong support for Australian automotive suppliers, from vehicle design to complete electric powertrains. From where I sit, the loss of these talented engineers is a real loss for the country – having known many over a number of years I’m saddened that we will lose their valuable expertise in automotive design and manufacturing.
