Hyundai’s pure electric IONIQ 5 SUV 1

DAVID BERTHON

Back in 2021 after driving Hyundai’s electric powered IONIQ 5 SUV I said it was
one of the most interesting and technically innovative cars released that year. A
game changer in the world of emission free motoring – futuristic, spacious,
exhilarating and superbly built and garnering a reaction wherever I drove it. 18
months on and Hyundai have updated the IONIQ 5 range with a bigger battery,
longer range and more power, plus in addition to the uprated Dynamiq single
electric motor rear drive and Techniq dual electric motor all-wheel drive models
Hyundai has added a dual motor Epiq flagship at $91,000 drive-away. The Epiq’s
Range a claimed 454km thanks to a larger 77.4kWh battery up from a 72kWh
previously. There’s new suspension tune to cope with the larger battery while
service intervals have now been doubled to two years/30,000km. Added to this
top tier model are camera based rear view mirrors with an interior angled screen
sitting atop each side door – a backward step which I’ll explain in my drive
impressions next segment. As I said when I first drove the IONIQ 5 the interior of
this pure electric model feels so modern and cutting edge to be almost
conceptual and futuristic in appearance. Drive details next. I’m David Berthon
