Jaguar F-Type convertible P450 – The last of the petrol Jaguars a collectors item

David Berthon

One for the enthusiast driver today, the Jaguar F-type convertible. The successor to Jaguar’s iconic E-Type, the F-Type arrived in 2013, a stunning looking car in convertible form over its coupe stablemate. One of the last petrol Jaguar’s, the company moving to a full electric portfolio by 2025. Few modern cars conjure up thoughts of long-term collectivity but the last of the petrol F-Type Jaguars will to my mind become collector items. And there’s no shortage of Jaguar enthusiasts today, the Jaguar Drivers’ Club one of the largest and most active in the country. The F-Type Convertible now comes as a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 P450 rear wheel drive at $186,920 – with just a few left in the marketplace most will have options. With eight speed automatic and manual shift paddles it can reach 100km/hour in 4.6 seconds. Jaguar suggest its shape as “liquid metal’ sculpture and this convertible looks like it’s moving standing still – the designers captured the beauty of the old E-Type in a modern interpretation and the test car drew eyes wherever I parked it. Loaded with comfort, driving and convenience features but its 2013 design perhaps lacking some of today’s more modern active safety elements. But how does it drive, details next segment.
