John Brogden (Profiles In Hope)

Rev Bill Crews

Rev Bill Crews talks to John Brogden – September 10 marked World Suicide Prevention Day. In Australia nearly 10 million people have been affected by suicide, which equates to almost half of our nation. Nineteen years ago, John Brogden came very close to adding his name to these statistics. But John survived and, since his recovery, has become a passionate voice for mental health and suicide prevention. John is an Australian businessman, former politician and Honorary President of LifeLine International. John’s career in politics started when he became a member of New South Wales Parliament in 1996. In 2002, he was elected Leader of the Opposition on his 33rd birthday – the youngest person ever to lead a major political party in Australia. John is a national and global leader in suicide prevention and crisis helplines. Now, in his book Profiles in Hope, John is shattering the wall of silence and shame around suicide. And, to help him, he has gathered together some incredible Australians to tell their stories.
