Lexus NX350h SUV 1
Lexus updated its medium sized NX SUV range last year – the Lexus NX the
brands big seller and a very comprehensively equipped prestige SUV. This
second-generation Lexus NX comprises two pure petrol models and three
hybrids and depending on model in front or all-wheel-drive – all told 12 variants. I
drove the big-selling NX 350h AWD Luxury at $73,850 with 2.5-litre petrol four-
cylinder engine linked to the latest Lexus hybrid drive system comprising dual
electric motors and a compact and lightweight lithium-ion battery, all driving
through a CVT or continuously variable transmission – total power output 179kW
with total torque 391Nm. This latest drive train well proven and the drive
experience most rewarding – smooth, quiet in a superbly insulated and appealing
cabin. Equipment includes LED headlights, colour head up instrument display,
360-degree camera, leather interior, heated and 20-inch alloy wheels. Fit and
finish levels a highlight in a very well thought out interior. My only dislike, a new
elatch door opening system, rather fussy and hard to get used to – instead of a
mechanical lever door opener you get an electric door button – it’s unnecessarily
complex inside and out and hard to adjust to. Otherwise, one can see why this
second generation NX is Lexus’s best seller.
