Mercedes-Benz delivers a stunning new generation C-Class sedan

Driving Mercedes-Benz new fifth generation W206 C-Class sedan, once a best seller for the three-pointed star brand but today overshadowed by its extensive SUV range. That’s not to downplay the C-Class’s popularity for its still Mercedes-Benz fourth best seller. The new model 107mm longer on a wheelbase that’s grown by 25mm.
Two models, both with mild hybrid assistance – the C200 with 1.5-litre 150kW turbo engine from $78,900 and the C300 with 2.0-litre 190kW turbo from $90,400 – these prices $12 – 15,000 more than the old model – a big price lift, perhaps enough to make buyers think twice although it does now include an AMG styling kit inside and out, previously a costly option.
And there’s a new second-generation 48V electric pack which aids initial acceleration. The C200’s extra cost balanced to some extent by once-optional radar cruise control, 360-degree camera, a powered boot lid, active lane-change assist, speed limit assist and high beam assist.
It’s worth noting that Mercedes-Benz has adopted an Agency sales model which means fixed pricing whichever dealer you go to – prices non-negotiable. Stock levels are also low due to shipping delays, with production hampered by semi-conductor shortages. The latest Mercedes-Benz C200 is worth waiting for, a class act, vastly better to the superseded model.
