MGs ZST SUV – Loaded with features, model year 23 saves up to $3500 (1)
Driving MG’s ZST SUV, the two higher grades gaining turbocharged 1.3-litre three-cylinder engines linked to six-speed automatic transmissions – the ZST Excite now $29,490 drive-away. the flagship Essence $30,490 drive-away, the latter $3,500 more affordable with this 23 Model Year offer. I drove the Essence, which carries a big lift in comfort and convenience features but how does it drive – three-cylinder turbo engines have always appealed and this one with good torque from 1800 revs doesn’t disappoint – drive to the front wheels smooth in a particularly roomy cabin for the compact class. It feels strong, is far from cheap and cheerful while the MG moniker gives this small SUV a lot more presence and appeal. Good economy 6.8L/100km on 91 grade petrol but push it hard and it will consume more. The suspension is set for ride comfort over out and out handling. The MG ZST Essence suite of active safety inclusions dubbed MG Pilot impressive, but it does lack rear seat air vents and while the steering wheel features rake adjustment it disappointingly lacks adjustment for reach. But throw in a seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty and roadside assistance and three- year service costs of $896 and the value story is compelling.
