Talking today about the Mini brand, and more specifically the Mini Cooper S three-door hatch 60-year edition. That’s right, celebrating 60 years of the marvellous Mini Cooper S. In recent years the five-door and long-wheelbase Mini models have lost much of the original three-door Mini’s appeal – not the current three-door Cooper S however – the 60 year edition model I tested most attractive in special British Racing Green with a number of embellishments both inside and out – not cheap at $46,700 however the special 60-year edition Cooper S sports an extra $8,500 value for an additional $4,000 over the standard model Cooper S – the 2.0-litre turbo test car a real firecracker – with a 7-speed DCT automatic it personified the original Cooper S tag in every way – the reason is its lightweight at just 1280 kilos. A very satisfying sports performer that feels just so confident on well-shod 17-inch wheels. Such was its performance and nimbleness that my wife constantly reminded me of my enthusiasm – always within the limits but the zip, competent handling and braking makes it feels like it’s is going a lot faster than it actually is. It not only feels sporty but looks sporty with a white roof and mirrors and special edition graphics and stripes. Inside the Cooper S 60-years edition is no different with dark Cacao leather seating featuring a 60-year badge and contrasting green piping contrasted with the door bezels in piano black – the whole package classy and premium and beautifully finished.
