Minns Government strengthens enforcement to tackle illegal tobacco

Clinton Maynard

Clinton discusses with Health Minister Ryan Park the NSW Government’s reforms to tackle illegal tobacco, including tougher penalties, more enforcement officers, and a new licensing scheme for tobacco retailers.

The rise in illicit tobacco sales, especially in rural areas, harms law-abiding businesses by undercutting prices, with some retailers near schools.

The new scheme will require all tobacco and vaping retailers and wholesalers to obtain a licence, with penalties up to $220,000 for corporations and $44,000 for individuals selling without one.

Support will be provided to help small businesses with the application process.
