MP Keith Pitt defends democracy in the Voice Legislation Debate

Clinton Maynard

Luke is joined by Keith Pitt, NLP Federal Member for Hinkler, about his contribution to the debate on the legislation of the Voice in the House of Representatives this week.

Mr Pitt made it clear he’d be opposing the government’s referendum bill when he said, “I believe all Australians are equal, not that some Australians should have a different level of democracy or a different approach to democracy, not that one group of Australians has different rights to others”.

“It is a fundamental tenet of this country that we are all one people.”

Mr Pitt also discusses an extraordinary intervention that raises concerns about the separation of powers, following a prominent judge from the NSW Supreme Court accusing a Nationals MP of racism due to his opposition to an indigenous voice in parliament.
