New ABS data reveals public school enrolments are surging

The proportion of children in public schools rose to 65.5 per cent last year and the trend continues to grow. But on the contrary – and for the first time in memory – the number of children enrolled in Catholic schools was less than the previous year, ending decades of growth.
Last year Catholic schools lost more than a quarter of a per cent of enrolment share, equivalent to 11,000 students. Luke Grant spoke with Tim Dodd, journalist with The Australian, about the trend.
