One child dies of Pneumonia every 39 seconds

Sadly, pneumonia is the largest cause of infectious death in children worldwide, accounting for 15% of all deaths of children under five years old. That works out to one child dying of pneumonia every 39 seconds.
More than 77,000 Australians are hospitalised with Pneumonia every year, with those over 65 spending, on average, 13 days in hospital if the contract the deadly infection.
November 12 is World Pneumonia Day, where awareness is turned towards the ongoing efforts to treat pneumonia, as detailed by San Respiratory Physician Dr Amy McLean.
