Pain costing Australians billions
Pain can be acute or chronic with 1 in 5 Australians suffering with pain from injury, cancer, arthritis or other conditions restricts activities they are able to do, and costing an estimated $73.2 billion plus, per year.
Traditional treatments include medication like opioids, physical therapy, psychological treatment and in some cases surgery.
Dr Shravani Gupta is an anaesthetist and acute pain specialist and the head of the Acute Pain Service from Sydney Adventist Hospital and joins John Stanley.
