Perth tree planting event axed after Indigenous group demand $2.5m

Luke is joined by Shane Love, the Leader of the Opposition and Leader of The Nationals in Western Australia, regarding the recent cancellation of tree planting events in WA.

These cancellations were due to allegations made by a peak environmental body, claiming that a Perth-based Indigenous corporation is withholding approvals until they receive $2.5 million in compensation.

This incident marks the second clash between community groups and Indigenous representatives since the updated Aboriginal cultural heritage laws came into effect on July 1.

While finding a straightforward resolution may be challenging, the situation is a significant concern that could potentially impact Anthony Albanese’s referendum, as many listeners have expressed.
