Road tolls becoming a major issue with Sydney’s motorists

David Berthon

So we hear from Dominic Perrottet and his Roads Minister Natalie Ward there is no quick fix to Sydney’s ever increasing road tolls.

Unravelling long term contracts which guarantee increases to Toll operators for year’ s to come is according to the Premier a complex issue – Miss Ward adding “There is no quick fix to this, we can’t keep kicking it into the long grass, we can’t be afraid of reform”. Quite frankly if the Government doesn’t act soon I can’t see it remaining in power after the State Election next March.

Sydney is the most toll taxed city in Australia, with some motorists in the rapidly growing north-west sector already paying between $6,000 and $9,300 a year in tolls.

And Dominic Perrottet’s suggestion of introducing distance-based tolling will only add to the costs of these motorists coming from the outskirts of Western Sydney.

I’m David Berthon.
