Shining the light on mystery blackouts
We hear about amazing advances in technology to help diagnose previously undiagnosed conditions, yet this relatively straightforward advance could help explain why the 6-per-thousand people–in Sydney that’s more than 4 people per hour, each hour, every day – faint.
It’s the arrival and use of a ‘tilt table’ at the Sydney Adventist Hospital’s Blackouts and Faints Clinic.
The Clinic opened last year opened as a one-stop-shop to help diagnose what causes blackouts and faints, previously significantly underdiagnosed.
It’s a condition which if you are aged 75, you are 3 times more likely to have, yet which if diagnosed may be able to be managed or stopped preventing traumatic falls, or if its caused by cardiac issues, even death.
