Study reveals Aussies are confused about date labels

Mike Jeffreys

Mike speaks with Associate Professor Lukas Parker from RMIT University about a new study revealing that unclear date labels and storage advice lead Australians to waste food.

While use-by dates indicate safety and best-before dates signify peak quality, many of the 125 participants in the study still discard food at either date.

Younger families are more likely to throw food away, while older Australians tend to be less concerned with labels.

Date labels are seen as less reliable in warmer climates like Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Professor Parker highlights the need for clearer, more consistent labeling to reduce confusion.
