The farce surrounding speed cameras – nothing but a cash cow
Thankfully, common sense has prevailed and Roads Minister Natalie Ward has cancelled a proposed market research study on whether we like speed cameras which was going to cost $156,000.
The fact is that like road tolls the whole speed camera management needs review – claimed to reduce road fatalities yet in the first four months of this year road deaths in N.S.W. rose by 20.9 percent to 110. N.S.W. speed camera’s last year raked in $46 million dollars for driver’s doing less than 10km/hour over the limit – an incredible 750 per cent increase on 2020, despite a fair proportion of the State being in lockdown for 108 days.
Last Saturday’s Daily Telegraph carried an ad for speed camera officers by the operating company Redflex – successful applicants offered full comprehensive paid training, suggesting the job provided “the satisfaction of knowing you make a difference.” If only that was true.
