The Sofronoff inquiry is like witnessing a car crash

Clinton Maynard

Luke is joined Chris Merritt, Legal Affairs Editor The Australian Newspaper & vice-president of the Rule of Law Institute of Australia, who likens watching Shane Drumgold KC explain himself to Walter Sofronoff KC to witnessing a fatal car crash.

“It’s tragic and bloody”, he says but you cannot turn away, adding that Drumgold’s concessions and admissions before Sofronoff’s board of inquiry must raise doubts about whether he can survive as Director of Public Prosecutions for the ACT.

Luke also asks Mr Merritt about the government payout to Ms Higgins, an issue many have raised as we’ve watched this inquiry continue.
