Two updated favourites around the corner from Peugeot and Nissan

David Berthon

Two new models are around the corner which at first glance have a lot of appeal. From Peugeot, a welcome new 308 GT range due late in the year – a 1.2-litre 96kW turbo three-cylinder petrol hatch in two grades plus a premium wagon.

To be followed in 2023 by a 308 GT Sport plug-in hybrid hatch combining a 1.6-litre 132kW four-cylinder petrol engine with an 81kW electric motor.

All models featuring an eight-speed automatic. This small Peugeot has very sharp architecture and should gain good sales for the French brand if the price is right. Also, due late this year, a rather more stylish Nissan Qashqai SUV in four trim grades, all two-wheel drive powered by a 1.3-litre turbo three-cylinder replacing the current 2.0-litre naturally aspirated unit linked to a new continuously variable transmission.

All comprehensively equipped but starting a hefty $5,300 more than the outgoing model.
