Unlocking bat secrets, we could live to age 200
It’s fair to say bats have not been getting a lot of good PR lately. The coronavirus pandemic has placed a new focus onto bats as transmitters or agents of danger.
But apparently, they may hold the key to what we need to learn about COVID-19. Like us they are mammals, and yet they don’t get sick from coronaviruses – even though their populations are rife with them.
A new report in Cosmos magazine claims bats may hold many of the secrets we need to unlock about COVID-19, given their own immunity.
The study also looked into the long lifespan of a particular bat that lives to times longer than it should
