Visa scams choke our immigration system
Bill Woods is joined by Abul Rizvi, former deputy secretary of the Department of Immigration & author of “Population Shock”, about the scourge of visa scammers posing as migration agents, charging desperate migrants thousands of dollars to lodge an application and get a visa.
In the four months from July to October 2022, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal made 2,178 asylum decisions to keep asylum backlog to 37,830.
But this means that at the end of September, there were a record 32,625 unsuccessful asylum seekers living in the Australian community without any rights.
