Volkswagen’s premium Arteon sedan – now in an expanded sedan and wagon range
Today, an interesting premium model – the Volkswagen Arteon. This prestige four-door coupe first arrived in late 2017 but disappeared in showrooms in April 2020 after new emission tests in Europe paused its production. Volkswagen Australia re-introduced it late last year adding a shooting brake or wagon body style.
Both sedan and shooting brake come in two grades – both 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder – the front wheel drive 140TSI Elegance models with 140kW, the all-wheel-drive performance skewed 206TSI R-Line with 206kW – both variants in seven-speed dual clutch automatic. Prices run from the Elegance sedan at $61,740 to $70,740 for the R-line wagon.
Elegance as a model name is very fitting, the Arteon a very stylish sedan with a coupe style roof line, its quality inside and out impressive, as such it could very well pass as an Audi. Highly equipped with a premium Harman Kardon sound system, tri-zone climate control, 360-degree camera and a head up display and 12-way adjustable Nappa leather clad seats with heating, ventilation and massage function. Plus, a stack of driver assists technology.
The Volkswagen Arteon not a big seller, yet from comments made whilst testing few know the model exists but it’s a real sleeper that can hold its head high in the premium market. Warranty five years/unlimited kilometre. Service costs $1,658 over three years.
