Why do boys behave so badly?

Clinton Maynard

Recent media incidents depict a surge in reckless actions by young men, such as teens pushing an elderly fisherman off a pier and a student facing expulsion for a viral video prank.

Mike speaks with Dr Kathryn Daley, Senior Lecturer Youth Work & Youth Studies, Social Equity Research Centre, RMIT University, who attributes such behavior to factors like immature brain development, the allure of online attention, and limited spaces for positive social engagement.

Dr Daley advocates addressing the societal construction of hyper-masculine behavior and suggests providing more engaging spaces and pro-social activities to curb boredom and promote positive behavior among young people.
