Why swearing is actually quite good for you

“If you’re a bit of a potty mouth, don’t be too concerned, swearing is actually quite good for you”, says Health & Community Psychologist, Dr Marny Lishman.

It’s useful if we want to make people laugh, help deal with pain, road rage, and express joy, a study has found.

Researchers from the UK and Sweden have been looking into the power behind swearing, explaining that blasphemous words can actually have a positive impact on our relationships.

Scientists say that swearing is no longer seen as vulgar or a sign of low intelligence, instead claiming it can ‘produce an emotional arousal’ more effectively than any other words.
