Clinton Maynard

Mike speaks with Professor John Blaxland, Professor of International Security & Intelligence Studies, Strategic and Defence Studies Centre ANU, about his recent article detailing his thoughts on where Australia’s AUKUS deal should stand if Donald Trump be reelected.

The agreement outlines Australia’s plan to acquire six to eight nuclear-powered submarines over the next two decades. However, there’s ongoing debate and limited understanding of the necessity for such submarines.

Concerns arise regarding the US’s commitment to the deal and its industrial capability to meet submarine demands while questions linger about the timeline and political challenges, especially in the event of a potential change in US leadership.
