Poor asbestos sealing at Springwood depot revealed

Article image for Poor asbestos sealing at Springwood depot revealed

Dodgy asbestos sealing practises by licensed asbestos removalists have been exposed.

Safe Work NSW licensed asbestos removalists, Beasy, were hired by the Blue Mountains City Council to seal asbestos at Springwood Depot but the job wasn’t completed properly.

Ray Hadley received a photo of a light switch outside the human resources building at the depot, where damaged asbestos material has had a sealant applied to it.

The photo shows asbestos dust was been sealed onto the light switch, rather than being removed.

A report by asbestos testing organisation Airsafe, shows the location tested positive for asbestos after Beasy had sealed the material and after it had been cleared by SLR Consulting.

Beasy’s President Bret Baker has been invited onto the program but has turned down the invitation.

It’s unclear whether Beasy reported concerns about asbestos-contaminated dust at the depot to the council.
