Preeminent JFK historian reviews theories of presidential assassination
November 22 marks a sombre anniversary in the US, with Americans mourning the 58th anniversary of the assassination of President John F Kennedy.
Over the decades, conspiracies about lone gunman Harvey Lee Oswald’s motives, possible accomplices and the Soviet Union or CIA’s involvement have abounded in the popular imagination.
Harvard Professor Fredrik Logevall is an author an expert on JFK, and told Ben Fordham whilst none of the conspiracies have “compelling evidence” as of yet, his research work is ongoing.
“This is going to be an important question for me, and we should remember that a conspiracy can be as few as two people.
“The CIA, the FBI, again I’m not convinced there’s a conspiracy involving them, but we do know that they had Oswald under surveillance … they had something to hide.
“There’s something consoling about conspiracies, they help make sense of the world.
“It’s no wonder that so many people seem to latch onto them.”
