Prostate cancer survivor implores all Australian men to beware silent killer
Prostate cancer takes nine Australian men’s lives every day.
The ‘Movember’ campaign emphasises the importance of monitoring for the disease, which often has no symptoms in its early stages.
Danny Hansen was diagnosed with prostate cancer aged 49, despite “confused” GPs struggling to interpret his prostate specific antigen (PSA) results.
“The thing about a PSA test is it’s not definitive,” he told Jim Wilson.
“I found a website called Maxwell Plus, [which] does diagnosis using artificial intelligence.
“They put it all your previous test results, and they do a match against a database of 250,000 men and look for patterns.”
Mr Hansen credits the early diagnosis with his cancer-free outcome post surgery.
“If I hadn’t have signed up to them … I would’ve caught it much later.”
