‘Pure entertainment’: Vaudeville reinventor returns to finish what he started
Australian variety performer Wayne Scott Kermond is bringing his show Spiegelesque back to Parramatta’s Riverside Theatre.
The season was sidelined mid-year by Sydney’s COVID outbreak and subsequent lockdown, he told Ray Hadley.
“Now we’re coming back this Thursday night and we’re going to try and finish off what we started.”
Mr Kermond is a fourth-generation vaudeville and cabaret performer with roots all the way back to the Tivoli Circuit, but has set out to take the tradition out of the spiegeltent and into theatres around the country.
“I’m utilising … that wonderful old era of comedy and song and dance and side acts, and just serving on a new plate with a very contemporary style.
“At the end of the day Ray, it’s pure entertainment.”
