Racing boss takes ‘immediate action’ on Darren Weir allegations
The boss of the state’s horse racing governing body says he has no tolerance for the use of tasers, known as jiggers, on horses.
Racing Victoria is investigating Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Darren Weir over allegations relating to integrity and animal cruelty.
Racing New South Wales has given Weir a show cause notice to prove why he should be allowed to keep racing here.
Chief executive Peter V’Landys tells Alan Jones if the allegations are proven true there will be strict consequences.
“We have a record here that we have caught a person just in simple possession of a jigger and we gave him two years disqualification.
“It’s a lot worse if we discover that they’ve used the jigger on the horse. The fact that it’s in their possession, we gave a two-year disqualification.”
