Ray Hadley calls for blood over alleged attempted bribery claims

The Building Commissioner has alleged that he was falsely accused of attempting to bribe a developer, which in part led to his resignation.

David Chandler had been subject to allegations he asked for a bribe from Sydney developer Toplace.

In a parliamentary estimates hearing, Mr Chandler has given some background as to why his resignation letter has been referred to ICAC.

Mr Chandler described a meeting where he was presented with documents that purported to show him suggesting that if five million dollars was deposited into a trust account, he would “go away”.

The Commissioner says the allegations were proven to be wrong and he was willing to take the documents to the police.

“You can’t have, in a fair and equal society, public servants like Mr Chandler being treated in such a fashion and someone needs to be held to account,” Ray Hadley said.

“The bloody thing’s disgraceful, absolutely bloody disgraceful!”
