Ray Hadley defends officer in viral police attack video
Ray Hadley is defending a police officer after a video surfaced of officers being assaulted in Sydney’s south-west.
A 43-year-old man will face court after an assault that left three senior officers in hospital.
Officers from Bankstown Police Transport Command were allegedly assaulted by a man after instructing him to move away from the middle of Jacob Street Terrace.
The man allegedly punched and kicked both officers, who used OC spray in an attempt to subdue him, before he ran from the area and boarded a train.
A short time later he was arrested at a Yagoona home and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he allegedly assaulted a third officer – a 32-year-old male senior constable – while in custody.
Critics have piled on one of the female officers, accusing her of not doing enough to protect her colleague.
But NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon told Ray Hadley the criticism has been “unfair”.
“I have seen another video which clearly shows that that officer was kicked and then punched several times to the head and was dazed as a result of that assault.”
