Nine Radio has announced 2UE is returning to the airwaves, with Ray Hadley hinting he may make a switch back to the station.

The historic brand will once again be heard on Sydney radio but will move to a music format, playing the best of the 70s, 80s and 90s on 954AM.

The station will also feature live local news, sport and weather with Nine’s Managing Director of Radio Tom Malone saying he’s “very proud to be bringing back [the] great radio brand”.

The new station will launch on February 2, with Ray Hadley sparking rumours he may feature in the lineup.

“They’ve approached me about doing a country music program on a nightly basis, between six and midnight,” he said, tongue-in-cheek.

“I haven’t decided to do the gig yet. It’ll be a long day doing the morning shift and then coming back on 2UE, where I started my career back in 1982, returning to my roots so to speak.”

“Tom Malone’s just fallen off his chair,” laughed Ray.

“He didn’t know about that. No one does, I just made it up.”
