Ray Hadley has revealed new details about a convicted paedophile awaiting sentencing.

Robert Van Gestel was convicted of eight offences in June but despite recently passed laws, has not been taken into custody ahead of his sentencing.

The Ray Hadley Morning Show previously reported a detention application was dismissed because an intensive corrections order, which would allow Van Gestel to serve his sentence in the community, was not off the table.

Attorney-General Mark Speakman has told Ray Hadley the Director of Public Prosecution will bring a fresh detention application forward on Monday.

Van Gestel has been living in an affluent Melbourne suburb since 2003.

Now, Ray has discovered Van Gestel’s son owns a music school aimed at primary-aged children.

Robert Van Gestel was co-director, bookkeeper, accounts manager and direct school contact for a period of 15 years.

The children attended Van Gestel’s home to attend their music lessons.

“It’s advertised in school newsletters, and those schools may be totally unaware that residing in that home is a convicted paedophile.”
