The NSW government has proposed reforms to shake-up the construction industry following the Opal and Mascot towers incidents.

The proposed reforms include ensuring the industry has a duty-of-care to homeowners, who would be able to pursue compensation if building practitioners have been negligent.

The government has also committed to appointing a building commissioner.

Better Regulation Minister Kevin Anderson tells Ross Greenwood the building commissioner will be announced in weeks.

“The industry has been screaming for this to hit the streets.

“We’re making sure we get the right person for the right job because this will be one of the biggest shake-ups in the construction industry in NSW.
