NSW paramedics set to receive much needed boost at state election

Article image for NSW paramedics set to receive much needed boost at state election

New South Wales has the second slowest paramedic response times in Australia, but a glimmer of hope could be on the horizon.

By 2056, Sydney’s population will hit eight million and there’s fear if we continue as is, we’ll knock Tasmania off the top spot for slowest.

But there are reports paramedic numbers are going to get a boost in the upcoming state budget.

Health Services Union General Secretary Gerard Hayes has been lobbying for 800 additional ambulances for NSW.

Hayes joins Ben Fordham.

“We’re at a point now, that we’ve been fighting this battle in excess of five years… we are very confident we are going to get some kind of good news.”

At the moment, there are 19,500 police on NSW streets, and only 4,500 paramedics.

“We’lll keep working until it’s done.”
