Results are in: Post-budget poll shows mixed results for Malcolm Turnbull
The Prime Minister’s popularity has surged on the back of the latest budget, but the Opposition still retains a slim election-winning lead.
The latest Australian Newspoll shows Malcolm Turnbull has lifted his voter approval rating to its equal-best level since the 2016 election.
- Preferred PM: Turnbull 46%; Shorten 32%
It is the first major poll since last week’s budget, and a horror week for Mr Shorten over the embarrassing dual citizenship fiasco.
Despite this, Labor retains a two-point lead over the Coalition after preferences.
- The Coalition trails Labor 51/49 on two-party preferred basis
The poll also shows support for One Nation and the Greens has fallen.
The Coalition has continued a steady rise in its primary vote since February lifting a point to 39 per cent — having hit record lows last year of 33 per cent
Labor’s primary vote also improved a point to 38 per cent
