Vale Norm Provan: Tributes flow for rugby league Immortal
Rugby league immortal Norm Provan has died at 88 years of age.
He had been in palliative care and passed away overnight with his family at his side.
Provan won 10 premierships with St George between 1956 to 1966, four as captain.
The best-remembered of those games was the mud-soaked 1963 Grand Final against Souths, where an image was taken of Provan with Arthur Summons.
The image has been recreated with the pair immortalised in bronze as part of the NRL Grand Final trophy.
As a diehard fan of the Dragons and of Provan, Nights host John Stanley paid tribute to the “very special man”.
“When Norm Provan stood up … you looked at all these old men, his former teammates … and they looked at him still with awe.”
